Last week, the Whitehead Financial team came together in the Yarra Valley for our annual conference.
While conferences often focus on strategy, leadership and professional development, the real reason we invest time in these events is simple: to ensure we’re continually improving the experience, advice and support we provide to our clients.
Over three days, we reflected on what we’ve learned over the past year, discussed ways to improve communication and collaboration, and challenged ourselves to continue raising the standard in everything we do.

Learning from Exceptional Leaders
A real highlight of the conference was the opportunity to learn from two outstanding leaders, Harry Moffitt and Craig Meller.
Harry Moffitt, a former Australian SAS soldier, author, psychologist and leadership expert, spent time with our team sharing lessons from leading high-performing teams in some of the most demanding environments imaginable. One of his key messages was that every successful organisation has two sides: the technical side, which focuses on performance and outcomes, and the culture side, which focuses on trust, relationships and communication. His reminder that culture must be deliberately nurtured, rather than assumed, resonated strongly with our team and reinforced the importance of continually investing in our people.
We also had the privilege of hearing from Craig Meller, former CEO of AMP. Craig shared his leadership journey and the lessons he has learned throughout his career. His message was refreshingly simple: surround yourself with great people, remain open to feedback, embrace change and technology, and never stop learning.
What I appreciated most about both speakers was that despite their very different backgrounds, they arrived at a similar conclusion. Sustainable success comes from investing in people, maintaining high standards and continually looking for ways to improve.
These are principles that sit at the heart of Whitehead Financial and ultimately help us deliver a better experience and better outcomes for our clients.

Continuous Improvement
Throughout the conference, we spent time reflecting on what is working well, where we can improve and how we can better support both our team and our clients.
One of the strongest themes to emerge was the importance of communication, collaboration and connection. As our business continues to grow, ensuring we remain aligned and connected is critical to maintaining the high level of service our clients expect.
We also discussed how great teams learn from their experiences, share feedback openly and continually strive to improve. Whether it’s investment management, retirement planning, client service or technology, there is always an opportunity to get better.
Celebrating Great People
One of the highlights of the conference was recognising members of our team for their contribution and commitment.
We celebrated Ben Shearman’s ten years of service with Whitehead Financial, a milestone that reflects a decade of dedication to both our clients and the business.
We also presented the Steven Whitehead Award, which recognises an individual who best embodies the values of our business through their commitment to growth, contribution and service to others.
Strong client relationships are built on trust, consistency and long-term partnerships, and it was wonderful to celebrate the people who help make that possible every day.
Congratulations to Mark Wakim (below), winner of the Steven Whitehead Award, recognised for his commitment to growth, contribution and service to others—values at the heart of our business.

Looking Ahead
When people understand where they stand financially, where they are heading and what opportunities are available to them, confidence grows. Financial freedom isn’t really about money. It’s about creating the ability to live life on your terms. And ultimately, that’s what good financial planning should help people achieve
The conference finished with a period of reflection on the experiences, relationships and goals that shape our lives.
It was a reminder that financial planning is about far more than money. It’s about helping people create the life they want to live, navigate challenges with confidence and make the most of the opportunities that come their way.
That is why we are so passionate about what we do.
My Biggest Takeaway
As I look back on the conference, my biggest takeaway is gratitude. Gratitude for an incredible team. Gratitude for the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients. And gratitude for the trust our clients place in us every day.
Our vision has never simply been about growing a financial planning business.
It has always been about helping people become the best versions of themselves so they can have a positive impact on the lives of the people around them. That applies to our clients. It applies to our team. And it applies to the communities we serve.
The conference reinforced something I’ve always believed: when you invest in people, foster strong relationships and commit to continual growth, great things happen.
Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. We never take that trust for granted and remain committed to continually raising the standard in everything we do.
One Team. Raising the Standard.
